Summary

Eckhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment。 And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means。 Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language。 More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness。

Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now。 (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence and the cycle of life。) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolise "break time"。 This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read。 As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better。 --Gail Hudson

Sir Eckhart Tolle。。。 what a true GEM! Cover to cover This book can be read on a sunny afternoon & it will indeed change your life。 Understanding what it means to live in the actual moment is key。 Timeless wisdom contained here!

Honestly I was very excited to read this book and then when I picked it up I realized that I picked it up years ago and I couldn’t continue reading it。 I forced myself to finish it this time。 Yes there are a lot of great advice in the book however the way it’s written is too complicated! Between understanding what’s my inner body and the unmanifested and the Source, I couldn’t know what’s what anymore。He could have made it simpler。

This book is trash。 For people who read less than ten books their entire life yet won’t shut up about it being the greatest book ever。 Profound to the illiterate and dumb。

Truly powerful! It forces you to question yourself, your mind pattern。 It made me realize the need for self-introspection and gives a little nudge to not being driven by my mind-made disorders。

Excellent book to help us understand the importance of staying present and how our egoic mind is separate from our spiritual selves and that place within us that holds no judgement。 Many sections hold profound wisdom that provided me with "aha" moments and a deeper sense of self。 A wonderful and easy-to-understand guide to personal development and spiritual growth。 I found I needed to read the book in segments, contemplate their meaning and return to the pages with new understanding。 I know I wi Excellent book to help us understand the importance of staying present and how our egoic mind is separate from our spiritual selves and that place within us that holds no judgement。 Many sections hold profound wisdom that provided me with "aha" moments and a deeper sense of self。 A wonderful and easy-to-understand guide to personal development and spiritual growth。 I found I needed to read the book in segments, contemplate their meaning and return to the pages with new understanding。 I know I will be re-reading The Power of Now many times! 。。。more

I really have to read this book again in ten years。 Although I could follow most of his teachings, I think there were some parts where I couldn't fully connect。 He's definitely at a different level of awareness and all his teachings are extremely valuable。 I really have to read this book again in ten years。 Although I could follow most of his teachings, I think there were some parts where I couldn't fully connect。 He's definitely at a different level of awareness and all his teachings are extremely valuable。 。。。more

Why do we all feel that something is missing? We feel discontent, unworthy, anxious, depressed, ashamed, and sometimes plain bored。 Why do we suffer in these ways, and what can we do about it? Strangely enough, this small book holds the answers。 It is a well-drawn map to freedom。I have read it four times, and each time it resonates as deeply as if I had written it myself - for me。 I have also read many other similar books from the “self-help” shelf, but none of them do what this book does。 Each Why do we all feel that something is missing? 2。0 Me resulta complicado dar una opinión sobre este libro。 Tras leerlo no sé realmente de qué va。 Solo entendí el título así que no puedo darle más de 2 estrellas。 No le pongo 1 por la misma razón。

The book started off with the author explaining that he found his way to living in the present moment by accident, which was very discouraging。 The tone of the book was extremely arrogant, repetitive, condescending and preachy, and although the basic idea of the book is good, the delivery of it was poor and ridiculous。

This book is not easy to read。 Many ideas are conceptual, and it requires a great deal of life experiences and religious knowledge to truly appreciate its meanings。It try to teach us how to “find our way out of psychological pain; and authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now”。Though some ideas are a bit forceful to me (which forces me to think in writer's perspective), many are particularly enlightening:1) THERE IS NO PAST AND NO FUTURE, we are only living in the Now。 Past is pu This book is not easy to read。 Many ideas are conceptual, and it requires a great deal of life experiences and religious knowledge to truly appreciate its meanings。It try to teach us how to “find our way out of psychological pain; and authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now”。Though some ideas are a bit forceful to me (which forces me to think in writer's perspective), many are particularly enlightening:1) THERE IS NO PAST AND NO FUTURE, we are only living in the Now。 Past is purely the memory of what happened, and Future the projection of our mind。 2) Throughout millions of years of human evolution, our mind is programmed to keep us survive。 It helps us learn from past experiences, or anticipates what might happen in the future。 An overwhelmed mind with so many things running in it actually distract us from being present at the moment, make us in constant thinking, anxiety, desperation。 WHEN WE KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT PRESENT, WE ARE PRESENT。3) LIFE is different from LIFE SITUATION。 Improving life situation, such has having a lot of money, a big house, a fancy car。。。 doesn't coincide with improving life。 So many people appear to be rich but feeling empty, unhappy inside。4) "How much of our life do we spend waiting? “Small-scale waiting” is waiting in line at the post office, in a traffic jam, at the airport, or waiting for someone to arrive, to finish work。。。 “Large scale waiting” is waiting for the next vacation, for a better job, for a child to grow up, for a truly meaningful relationship, for success, to make money, to be important, to become enlightened。 IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO SPEND OUR WHOLE LIFE WAITING TO START LIVING。 Waiting is a state of mind。 Basically we want the future, we don't want the present。 We don't want what we have got, and we want what we haven’t got。 With every kind of waiting, we unconsciously create inner conflict between here and now where we don't want to be, and the projected future where we want to be。 This greatly reduces the quality of our life by making us lose the present。"4) FORGIVENESS/ SURRENDER: to accept thing as it is, and how to overcome it, not denial or resistance at the first place。 BEYOND GOOD AND BAD, HAPPY AND UNHAPPY, IT'S PEACE。 。。。more

That was, however, not the case for me。My biggest issue with this book is that it seems like Mr Tolle sees himself as a being of absolute divinity and perfection。 There is absolutely nothing wrong with him, he has achieved spiritual enlightenment to the fullest possible level and anyone who does not see 100% eye to eye with him is an inferior individual。 The way the book is structured with questions being asked for him to answer only seems to be him creating a space for himself to belittle the reader and make you feel downright stupid for asking them (even though you didn't)。 Almost every answer is so blatantly condescending, just repeating that "no, you're doing it wrong", "think like me or begone" or "you don't have the capacity to understand this concept until you're as enlightened as me"。This was beyond frustrating to go through, as I am genuinely hungry for knowledge on this subject, and while I did find some valuable snippets here and there, most of them were just diffused by the fact that I just didn't trust the author。 And to be honest, anything that I did find valuable I have already learned from other books and authors who have been way more inspiring, mostly because they have been open, honest and vulnerable people, acknowledging their owns flaws and faults and sharing their own life experiences and what they've learned from them, inviting you to take whatever resonates with you to improve your own life and mental health, and leave what doesn't。 I find this approach to be so much more relatable and gives me trust in that author and person, rather than this preaching style text from what feels like some sort of cult leader。And this is nothing new, I've seen it all before, having grown up around quite intense communities of christians and jehova's witnesses, where their way was the only way and they would just look down upon anyone who didn't agree, and there would never be any discussions to be had there。 You either submitted or was judged。 This is the impression that I get here as well, and if I ever met Mr Tolle and expressed what I thought of this book, I feel quite certain that I would only be met by a smug smile and him feeling sorry for me because I'm not as majestically enlightened as he is。 And I'm sure that will be the case with anyone reading this review who is a devout follower of his as well。 The length of the book also confounds me somewhat, as it may as well have ben summarized in 50 pages or less, or could've been drawn out to 500, as he is just going on and on and on and on about the same concept over and over and over aaaand over again。 Seems utterly random that he just decided to stop his rant around 200 pages。Although many things frustrated me and made me roll my eyes throughout this read, the one thing that almost made me stop was when he has the audacity to judge people with mental illnesses who suffer from depression and might even commit suicide and say that this is just a result of that "They cannot distunguish between their life and their situation。"This is beyond offensive to anyone who has experienced real depression and/or anxiety, as he seems to imply that simply by distinguishing between these two things your illness would magically evaporate, that if in the pits of despair you were just handed a copy of this divine scripture all your worries would go away, your 2 hour long panic attack would just stop and you would wake up the next morning free of that suffocating darkness residing in your chest。 If only it were that simple。 Something that really upsets me is that I'm afraid that this book will turn people away from seeking a more spiritual and mindful life。 For me, personally, there is no harm done, but I'm imagining if I read this book a few years ago I probably would've been very turned off from the subject, and fear it would be the same for anyone just starting out their spiritual journey。 I implore you to seek guidance and inspiration elsewhere。Let me just finish by assuring you that I am doing absolutely fine, and my road to my own personal spiritual enlightenment is in no danger whatsoever, this is simply a review of a book and my personal impression of the author。 For all I know Mr Tolle is a lovely person with whom I would get along splendidly。 But in my opinion, this is a terribly written and structured book, and it gives me the impression that the author is nothing but another smug and self-righteous individual that simply has no place in my life, and I doubt I will ever read or listen to any of his words ever again, and my strong recommendation is that you don't either。 。。。more

Supongo que en parte será por la traducción, pero el usó constante de los pronombres llega a hacer la lectura bastante pasada。 El poder del ahora nos abre los ojos a la realidad de vivir el momento y saber que aquí y ahora son las únicas cosas que realmente importan。

I was expecting too much from this book and I really wanted to like it but I couldn't force my myself to finish it。。。 it is a painfully boring read。 Far too much waffle and is very repetitive, saying the same thing over and over and over again。 I understand the main concept of the book and if you're interested I recommend you to rather read Untethered Soul by Michael Singer it basically covers the same topic (mindfulness & awareness) but with more substance。 (I also found the tone of the book co I was expecting too much from this book and I really wanted to like it but I couldn't force my myself to finish it。。。 it is a painfully boring read。 Far too much waffle and is very repetitive, saying the same thing over and over and over again。 I understand the main concept of the book and if you're interested I recommend you to rather read Untethered Soul by Michael Singer it basically covers the same topic (mindfulness & awareness) but with more substance。 (I also found the tone of the book condescending and reading it made me somewhat angry。) 。。。more

I personally did not like the references to the Bible and "Jesus said blablabla" - otherwise good book- it definetly helps you to be focused more on the present than past/future。。。 Sonetimes a little bit boring/repeating。 Also the conversation between author and himself gave less chance to think of your own- on the other hand it was a good guidance。 I personally did not like the references to the Bible and "Jesus said blablabla" - otherwise good book- it definetly helps you to be focused more on the present than past/future。。。 Sonetimes a little bit boring/repeating。 Also the conversation between author and himself gave less chance to think of your own- on the other hand it was a good guidance。 。。。more
